What is Thermoformed Packaging?

Thermoformed Packaging

While other companies have followed suit, the first company in North America to use thermoformed packaging with polylactic acid was the Wilkinson Manufacturing firm in Omaha, Nebraska. Used primarily for food product packaging, other companies are now using this option for baked goods, pies, dips, and so on. Thermoformed packaging is made from biodegradable polymer that is made from cornstarch. The material is milled, the residue of corn grains dried and soaked with the embryo and outer layer removed. It was discovered that this type of packaging offers tremendous benefit, including high gloss, stiffness, and maintenance of the food’s flavor and aroma. Best of all, packaging of this type is also environmentally-friendly. Although it is advantageous for the food industry, it also is a great solution for industries of all kinds.
