Why Manufacturers Choose Clamshell Packaging
Imagine that you need a new electric alarm clock. You will probably head to a local department store to select from several choices. As you approach the rack or shelves containing the clocks you might immediately notice those packaged in clear plastic covering, or clamshell packaging. You reach for these first because they allow a complete view of the item.
Below are a few clocks boxed with a thick cardboard, and though these have a detailed photograph of the clock, you will probably opt to purchase one that you can perform a true examination of; the one in the clamshell packaging.
This example is one of the founding reasons behind manufacturers choosing clamshell packaging over older, more traditional methods such as cardboard containers. By permitting a consumer an unimpeded view of an item, in fact allowing them to actually “hold” the item, tends to initiate a purchase quicker than asking them to assume from photographs.
